Poverty Research Essay

INTRODUCTION

During the Spring of 2016, I took a course titled EDUC 746: Disgnosis and Evaluation of Reading Difficulties. We were asked to select a topic to research that related to striving readers. I selected my topic based upon the current needs of my classroom. I have several students in my room that would be considered students in poverty. I personally wanted to be aware of their struggles and also be knowledgeable of how to best educate these students of need. This essay discusses basic poverty facts, how the US compares to other first-world countries, and ways we can help those in need.

REFLECTION

This research essay provided me with an opportunity to research a topic that I am extremely curious about. I learned so many interesting ideas on ways to help those in need, and I also learned what services are already in place to help those struggling. What I found most interesting were the basic facts on those in poverty. These facts include which races and age groups are affected the most by poverty. This research project provided me personal professional professional development in being culturally responsive.
